Academics for Wilson Scholars

Wilson scholars are all taught by highly qualified teachers. Each classroom has the support of an educational assistant and a wrap-around support person. The RTI model is used in supporting student grade-level work.

Our scholars in grades K-6 participate in Literacy Collaborative, which is a comprehensive school reform project designed to improve the reading, writing, and language skills of elementary- and middle-school children. School-based literacy coaches are trained in research-based methods, provided with ongoing professional development as they continually implement research-based approaches in their own classrooms, and supported as they provide on-site training for the teachers in their schools. The goal of this comprehensive effort is to significantly raise the level of achievement for all students.

READ 180 is an effective system for raising reading achievement in grades 6-12. The program is designed to support educators while helping struggling readers meet the rigorous expectations of the new standards and experience success on the new assessments. The program is researched-based and has a documented history of success.

Bridges Math is a comprehensive K-5 curriculum that equips teachers to fully implement the Common Core State Standards for mathematics in a manner that is rigorous, coherent, engaging, and accessible to all Wilson scholars. The curriculum focuses on developing the scholars' deep understandings of mathematical concepts, proficiency with key skills, and ability to solve complex and novel problems. Once again, teachers use the RTI Model to scaffold scholars toward grade level math success.

Carnegie Math provides comprehensive solutions to raise scholars' math knowledge through a combination of classroom activities, adaptive software, and teacher professional development for our scholars in grades 6-12. The program engages and motivates while promoting a deep conceptual understanding of content. The program is data-driven, and curriculum is built around assessment results. The Carnegie program also has a RTI model to support struggling learners.
