GUIDELINES AND PROCEDURES:
The Youngstown City School district has developed the Positive Student Support Team process toaddress the needs of the individual student, who may be not being experiencing success in the General Education Classroom.

PSST is a dynamic process that requires the collaborative and integrated effort between the school and community involving outside resources with the common goal of academic success for the individual student in the General Education setting.

The Positive Student Support Teams (PSST) are school based teams comprised of teachers, parents and other Support Personnel.

The focal point for the PSST is the implementation of proactive Student Learning Plans or FBA/BIPs which will assist in the resolution of student centered educational and/or emotional needs.

PSSTs will analyze students individualized needs through the development, implementationand monitoring of the appropriate proactive student centered interventions.

The goal of the PSST is to use all available resources to ensure student success in the general education setting.

Types of Referrals:
ACADEMIC / BEHAVIORAL REFERRAL: Once a student is recommended for the PSST Intervention Process. The team will access his/her needs and determine it is an academic referral or an emotional/behavioral referral.

Academic Referral: The team will use the Student Learning Plan form to develop and generate a series of interventions. They will also be asked to document assessment tools they are using with the referred student.
Behavior Referral: If the team determines the referred student is experiencing behavior concerns then a Functional Behavior Assessment will need to be completed along with a Behavior Intervention Plan.
