Marc Ellis, Academic Coordinator

As I begin my tenth year at Youngstown Early College as an Academic Coordinator, I reflect on all the miles that we have traveled and all the awards that the school has earned, both nationally and at the state level.  I am so proud of all the former students that have walked “The Big L”.  I am looking forward to the current students and helping them reach for the stars and make their dreams come true.

There are two things I truly love about my job.  I love teaching the Summer Bridge class.  Seeing these scholars come in with excitement and enthusiasm about the journey that they are about to start, working with them over the next four years and then seeing them walk across the Youngstown City School graduation stage and then the Youngstown State University stage with an Associate degree, all in the same weekend.  The second thing that I love about my job is staying in touch with the amazing graduates of YEC!  Seeing them continue to work on their BA degrees, many of which are now working on Master Degrees.  Some are in Med School, some are in Seminary, some are working in their field making great money, but ALL making a difference in their communities that they now call home.

I was raised in Boardman.  I attended Youngstown State University and majored in Elementary Education.  I taught in a local school before moving to The Sunshine State, Florida.  While I loved my time and the life I made in Tampa, Florida, I missed the Mahoning Valley.  I returned home to take the job at Youngstown Early College and have not regretted it one bit.

I am looking forward to the 2016-2017 school year.  I know that this is going to be “The Year of Greatness”.  We have an amazing staff that includes dedicated Coaches, “The Dream Team” as Mrs. Welch calls it, and I could not agree with her more.

I welcome any feedback you may have.  I invite you to call me, email me, or text me any time.  We have one goal, the success of your young adult!  I will be as excited as you when their name is called at commencement.  They are who they are because of you, let us continue to work together and celebrate alone the way!
