Surgical Technology

The primary functions of a surgical technologist are to assist the surgeon andoperating team, maintain the sterile field and pass instruments.A surgical technologist can work in a hospital, out- patient surgery,private scrub for surgeons or private companies. Admission Requirements:High School diploma or GED®, TABE pre-entrance exam, manual dexterity.

This comprehensive program includes course work in:
• Anatomy & Physiology /Pathophysiology/Medical Terminology
• Anesthesia
• Behavioral Science/Patient Care Concepts
• Fundamentals of Surgical Technology
• Microbiology
• Pharmacology
• Surgical Procedures
• Technological Sciences

Upon completion, graduates are eligible to sit for the national certification exam and are provided the opportunity to receive 30 Semester hours of credit in Allied Health at YSU.
