YOUNGSTOWN CITY SCHOOLS ATHLETICS:
PUPIL ACTIVITY VALIDATION COURSE
The Ohio Department of Education (ODE) requires all individuals who supervise, direct or coach a student activity program to have a Pupil Activity Validation (PAV) certificate. The Ohio High School Athletic Association requires this certificate for all of its coaches in Ohio. YCSD offers a two-hour Pupil Activity Permit for any student/recreation activity program that involves athletics, routine or regular physical activity or activities with health and safety considerations. This course meets one portion of the requirements of the Ohio Department of Education for coaches or those involved in athletics with health and safety considerations. This course is meant to focus on basic first aid and injury prevention. CPR is a separate course offered by Kristy Olinik through National Safety Course.

**Coaches** After this course, you will still need to complete BCI & FBI Background Check, Fundamentals of Coaching (NFHSLearn.org), and Concussion certification (NFHSLearn.org, Heads Up to Youth Sports), CPR if you have chosen to go elsewhere for your certification (American Red Cross, American Heart Association), to do on your own to complete your Pupil Activity Permit. Ask your instructor for a coaches checklist to ensure every criterion is met appropriately.
